Ditch and Switch method

Did you know that the average US woman uses 12 personal care products a day, containing 168 different chemicals? THAT IS DAILY! Typically it’s in the morning, meaning that women are starting their day by putting stress on the body.

In just 26 seconds after exposure to chemicals, they can be found in every organ in the body. The USA only bans around 112 toxins while Europe bans over almost 2000 in personal care products alone. More than 500 chemicals on average can be found in American homes. Indoor pollutants are the first thing I start to work with people. Our environment plays a huge role in how we feel daily. Continuous exposure to unnatural substances overloads our natural detoxification systems and leads to a buildup in our bodies. Think of our bodies as a glass of water. There is an empty cup put under a toxic drip. Drip after drip this accumulates into our body and fills our glass. Eventually, we have collected enough toxic drips (exposures), until our glass overflows. This is the tipping point when we have reached the toxic threshold.

These statistics are not meant to scare you or shame you. We don’t know, what we don’t know – Can we avoid everything? No way. Nobody is perfect. But we can take steps to learn more and do better every day.

This is what I call the Ditching and Switching Method! Ditching toxins causing havoc in the body and switching to clean products that support your body on a cellular level. This can be done in many ways like one ingredient at a time, one room at a time, one body system at a time, or even one stressor at a time.

A few toxins I look for are Fragrance, Triclosan, Phthalates, Formaldehyde, and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). These toxins are linked to coughing, skins rash, wheezing, headaches, nausea, vomiting, irritability, birth defects, hormone imbalance, damaged cells, increase inflammation, eye irritation, asthmatic response, hair loss, cataracts and so much more when used regularly. Here are a few places I find them hiding in the home.

Why you do not want to trust what is on the shelf

Another big thing to be aware of is greenwashing! If a product at the store claims itself as “green”, “natural” or “biodegradable” – that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s non-toxic. Unfortunately, many brands will look natural, but when you flip the label over you will see that it is still packed full of toxins. Some of you will have to dive a bit deeper and look at the parent company to see if they have clean products that aren’t GMO.
